"Entrepreneur" Personality(ESTP-A / ESTP-T)

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.
Helen Keller

Entrepreneurial personality types are quite influential in their surroundings - the best way to spot them at a party is to look for people who are comfortable moving through the crowd. They talk and laugh with direct and unpretentious humor and love to be the center of attention in a crowd. They'll introduce themselves to an audience member if they're invited on stage, or recommend a shy friend.

Theories, abstract concepts and tedious discussions about global issues and their implications hardly keep their interest for long. Their conversations are energetic and intelligent, and they like to discuss the here and now, or simply move on. Entrepreneurial personality types don't look ahead; they correct mistakes as they move forward, rather than sitting idly contemplating backup plans and exit scenarios.

Never Confuse Motion with Action

Entrepreneurial personality types are the most risk-taking personality types. They live in the moment and do what they say they will do, and are at the center of the storm. This personality type enjoys drama, passion and thrill, not for the emotional ups and downs but to bring stimulation to their logical minds. They make important decisions based on the reality of the situation at hand in response to quick rational stimuli.

This makes it difficult for them to fit into schools and other well-ordered organizations. This is certainly not because they are unintelligent, in fact they can do very well, but because the regulated teaching methods used in formal education are far removed from the hands-on approach to learning that they prefer. It takes a very mature mindset to realize that this is an important step needed for success and can create more exciting opportunities.

Equally challenging is the fact that they find it more rewarding to use their own ethical standards rather than someone else's. Rules are meant to be broken. But this view is hard to endorse by high school teachers and corporate superiors, and it can hurt their reputations instead. If they could get into less trouble and put more energy and attention into boring things, there would be no limit to what they could do.

Most people aren't paying attention.

They are perhaps the most perceptive and insightful type, adept at picking up on small changes. Whether it's a change in facial expression, clothing or habits, this personality type can pick up on hidden thoughts and motives that others don't even notice. Entrepreneurial personality types will immediately capitalize on these observations, pointing out changes and asking questions with little regard for their sensitivities. They must be aware that not everyone wants their secrets and decisions to be public.

There are times when their powers of observation and action are sorely needed, such as in some corporate environments, especially in emergencies.

If they're not careful enough, they may become too focused on the moment, get out of line and hurt those with more delicate feelings, or neglect their own health and safety. Entrepreneurial personalities make up only 4% of the population, and while there are many "entrepreneurs" who surround us with fire and brimstone, there are not so many as to create systemic risk.

"Entrepreneurs are passionate, full of energy, and have a rational, occasionally distracted brain. They are inspiring, compelling, colorful and natural team leaders who take the road less traveled and bring life and fun wherever we go. The real challenge for them is to put these qualities to use in constructive and rewarding goals.
